Let’s find these pets homes before Christmas!
The 12 “Strays of Christmas” #1 – REX!
The RISPCA says “Rex has been at the shelter now for over a year! When Rex came in he really needed to work on basic obedience skills, but he has made so much progress over this past year and has become a kennel staff favorite. He already knows “sit,” “down,” “give paw,” and is working on “stay.” Rex has lots of love to give, and he can’t wait for someone to find him. Rex is a big, handsome, sweet, energetic, and athletic youngster who just loves life! When he plays, Rex’s choice game is tug of war! This bouncy guy will flourish with an experienced owner/trainer who can give him structure. He’d love to continue working on his training with you. Rex is a smart boy who enjoys learning and loves to please, especially when treats are involved. Rex can join a family with children 16+ who have experience with big goofy dogs. Due to his size and energy level, Rex would do best as the only pet in the home. This giant cuddle bug is going to make a wonderful addition to the right family. Rex is looking for a family to adopt! Could it be you? *Rex has been awarded a Handsome Dan’s Take My Lead Grant which provides FREE private training up to $500, and supplies.” Please adopt and/or share today!
The 12 “Strays” of Christmas #2 – TWEAK!
The RISPCA says “Tweak is a big boy who is affectionate but independent, and he can’t wait to be your new best friend! With questions about Tweak, or any of our other adoptable cats, please contact OIivia at [email protected]”
WED 12/4: The 12 “Strays of Christmas” #3 – SPUD!
The RISPCA says “Spud is a young, handsome, potato mix breed! Our boy is an absolute ball of energy. Spud’s favorite things are going for long walks and zooming around the play yard. He enjoys playing tug and fetch and would be a great addition to your family! Spud can get jumpy at times and could use some work on his basic commands. He should go home as the only pet and with adults only!” Please adopt and/or share today!
The 12 “Strays” of Christmas #4 – AMI (Ah-mee)!
The RISPCA says “Ami is one very cool rabbit. She loves to run and play during floor time and has some really epic binkies. She may take a little while to trust you, but when she does she loves a good head scratch. She does have an independent streak, and will definitely let you know how she’s feeling. Ami would make a great pet for older children. With questions about Ami, or any of our other small animals available for adoption, e-mail Olivia at [email protected].”
FRI 12/6: The 12 “Strays of Christmas” #5 – ALLISTER
The RISPCA says “Have you ever seen a more handsome boy? Allister is around 4 years old and can’t wait to go home! He loves his playtime in the yard and loves a good hike! NO dogs or cats for Allister as he can be very reactive at times. It would be best that Allister goes home with teens and older as he could use some work on his leash-walking skills and can get jumpy at times.” Please adopt and/or share today!
SAT 12/7: The 12 “Strays” of Christmas #6 – SWEET CAROLINE
The RISPCA says “Sweet Caroline is the perfect mix of sassy and sweet! She’s super affectionate and she loves to talk all day long. Sweet Caroline is a healthy and happy girl, but she is positive for FeLV, which is most likely a regressive infection. Interested applicants may discuss this with our cat staff! With questions about Sweet Caroline, or any of our other adoptable cats, please contact OIivia at [email protected]
SUN 12/8: The 12 “Strays of Christmas” #7 BLUE
The RISPCA says “Don’t let Blue’s short little legs fool you, this girl knows what she wants! Blue is a demanding golden girl with a love for stuffed toys and treats. She’s an older gal, at 9 years old, and had some health concerns in the past that have been treated. Due to her age, she will need a home that is willing to keep up with any other medical concerns that arise in the future. Blue can be a stubborn girl and would be best as the only pet in the home and with only adults. This way she can rule her kingdom the way she wants it without anyone else stealing her spotlight! Blue likes to go for shorter walks and would much prefer to be a couch potato all day. This beagle mix is ready to find her retirement home to spend the rest of her golden years!” Please adopt and/or share today!
MON 12/9: The 12 “Strays” of Christmas #8 – COULSON
The RISPCA says “Coulson has made quite a positive impression on our staff and volunteers. This rabbit is shy, sweet, and such a gentle soul. They are slowly gaining confidence, and we’re definitely seeing a playful side to them. Coulson loves to forage treats, dig in boxes, and quietly greet guests as they arrive. Coulson would be the perfect pet for any family. If you have any questions about any of our other small animals up for adoption, contact Olivia at [email protected].”
TUES 12/10: The 12 “Strays” of Christmas #9 – VERMONT (dog)
The RISPCA says “Vermont is a fearful boy who is still working on expanding his circle of trust, but we promise that once you’re in it, he will love you with his whole heart… and head… and butt. He forgets all personal space exists once you’ve been initiated into the Trustworthy Human Club. Each new experience is met with hesitation but also, as he becomes more confident and comfortable, it’s met with curiosity. If it’s new, it’s scary. We are working on getting him acclimated to real life by exposing him to more people, places, and things. Vermont is smart, and eager to please. He’s great with basic commands, loves birds, the color lavender, breakfast sandwiches, and has shown interest in other dogs. He is gentle, playful, and a goofball, but is also sensitive to unexpected or new sights and sounds. Vermont is a work in progress but has proven to be up for the challenge. Vermont is medium in size and would do best in an adult-only home. While we think he may do well with another dog in the home, we still need some time to make an official decision. He needs a special person or a special couple who are willing to work with his needs, and who understand that he may always need time and space to process new environments. Vermont comes with a Take My Lead grant, providing training through Handsome Dan’s Rescue. While not generally the case for TML dogs, training is mandatory in this case, and we will require his adopter(s) to agree to this as part of his adoption process. To say this boy is special is an understatement. We are beyond excited for him to be officially available for adoption, and we can’t wait to find his forever home. For any questions, please contact his Enrichment Specialist, Rachael, at [email protected]”
WED 12/11: The 12 “Strays” of Christmas #10 – ARCHIE (dog)
The RISPCA says “This is Archie, formally known as the artist Ahro! This boy is a ball of energy and needs to work! He loves his agility and knows quite a few tricks. It’s important that whoever adopts him is able to keep up with his energy. It’s best if he goes home with someone with a very active lifestyle. Archie-Ahro really enjoys playing, but also loves to cuddle up with you on the couch, he can’t wait to find a family who can give him all the love and attention he needs. If you are interested in him, apply today! Archie-Ahro has been awarded a Handsome Dan’s Take My Lead Grant which provides FREE private training up to $500, and supplies.”
THURS 12/12: The 12 “Strays” of Christmas #11 – MONTANA (dog)
The RISPCA says “Montana found herself at the shelter as part of a cruelty case in March of 2023. She was seized from her former owner, along with her brother until very recently. Montana is very smart, and quick to learn new cues. This adorable girl loves to run, chase down toys, and is working hard on her fetch skills. While she’s not nearly as fearful as Vermont, she does have a fear of new people and things. This makes walking on leash challenging and something she will need patience with. She comes with a Take My Lead grant for FREE training through Handsome Dan’s Rescue, which is a mandatory part of her adoption to ensure her forever home is committed to working on her behaviors. Montana loves to play. She’s a runner and would do great in a home with enough space for her to do so. A large fenced-in yard would be ideal to give her the outlet she needs to burn off her young energy. She also loves to snuggle, and will gladly get all up in your business in an attempt to get pats and hugs. She is on the small side of medium and needs an adults-only home, where she will likely need to be the only pet. If you have any questions or are interested in adopting Montana, please email Rachael at [email protected]”
FRI 12/13: The 12 “Strays” of Christmas #12 — SMOKEY JOANNE (cat)
The RISPCA says “Smokey Joanne’s personality has a remarkable resemblance to that of Tigger from Winnie the Pooh! This girl is personality plus, she just loves to bop around the cat room! From having Smokey Jo in an office setting + larger spaces, we have been able to learn more about her including that once she has gotten lots of her “Tigger-esque” energy out she is very affectionate! Smokey Jo’s ideal home is one where she can be the queen of the house, no other pets please! Families interested in adopting Smokey Jo should be cat-savvy, and all kids in the home should be 16+. With questions about Smokey Joanne, or any of our other adoptable cats, please contact Olivia at [email protected]”
