Founded in 1993, the Four Corners Art Center is an out-door art gallery that proudly displays art from locals of RI, primarily the Tiverton area. The mission of this non-profit organization is to “promote the arts at Tiverton Four Corners and the surrounding Farm Coast communities.” It is located in the historic Soule-Seabury House of the 1800s (3852 Main Rd., Tiverton Four Corners, RI.), and sits on more than an acre of land throughout which you may find sculptures and various exhibits. The Four Corners Art Center also hosts a number of events such as concerts, outdoor dance shows, theatrical performances, film showcases, and a variety of other special events. Not to mention, they do annual festivals as well, each of which shows a variety of what Four Corners has to offer. There is the Antique Show, Cultural Survival, Garden & Herb, and Arts and Artisans.
Another initiative sponsored by the organization is its youth program. Every summer, children can participate in the Art and Nature Summer camp, which is geared towards cultivating an appreciation for the arts and nature by immersing the participants in both.
Adult classes are offered as well. If interested, one can learn the preliminary steps to the indigo and natural dying process, calligraphy, plein air painting, and stained glass painting, each for a small fee.
The Four Corners Art Center provides another way for us to get to know Rhode Island, but does so in a different way. Its mission to support and give back to the community is shown throughout its work and what it offers to the public, as it strives to keep the local culture of Rhode Island alive.
