Has this happened to you? You press the HOME button on your Galaxy phone but instead of exiting to your home screen, you end up at the Google App instead. No matter how many times you press the HOME button, you stay on Google. This issue plagued my S5 for weeks, and I couldn’t find the answer until I scoured some Android forums and found it!
Since it took me so long to find, I thought I’d share with you the procedure to fix this (it’s a little involved….):
1) Power off your phone
2) Press your VOLUME UP switch, HOME button and POWER button at the same time
3) Your phone should vibrate once. When this happens let go of the POWER Button.
4) Eventually you should see a bare-bones black screen with tiny print. Let go of the two keys. This is a boot menu.
5) Using the VOLUME button, scroll to the menu choice which says “wipe cache partition.”
6) Use the POWER button to confirm “wipe cache parition.”
7) When the next screen displays, use the POWER button again to confirm “reboot system now.”
Joila!
If your Galaxy starts behaving erratically, this is a guaranteed fix, and goes a step further than a simple restart, or power down.
