AEG LiveHe’s not from Philadelphia, but tonight in the City of Brotherly Love, Jon Bon Jovi will be honored with one of that city’s prestigious honors: the Marian Anderson Award.
Named after the African-American opera singer and civil rights activist, the award is presented to artists for their humanitarian work. Previous recipients include Oprah Winfrey, Sidney Poitier and Maya Angelou. Jon is getting the award, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer, because of his work helping the homeless and poor in Philadelphia and nearby Camden, NJ. Among his projects: the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, which tackles the issues of homelessness, affordable housing and hunger.
Speaking to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jon says of his charitable efforts, “It would have been a life unfulfilled if the 52-year-old was on the same journey that the 21-year-old had been on. I just have chosen to become more and more involved…our foundation will continue to be a big part of my daily life.”
In other Bon Jovi news, Jon and his side band, Kings of Suburbia, have booked a special “holiday bash” three-day event in Las Vegas. On the official Bon Jovi website, you can buy packages that include airfare and two nights’ accommodations, admission to special parties and activities, special merchandise, admission to the concert, and a photo op with Jon. Prices start at around $1,800 per person, double.
